Coffee and tea with Freud

We are excited to introduce Freud of London to Le Marché St.George. Freud has been around since 1986, with two café bars aiming to introduce the lively chatter of Viennese cafés to London.
Pascal fell in love with the finely machined quality of their cafetiere, tea ball and stove top espresso maker and I with their passion for exuberant café culture.
Soon we'll be offering a rotating list of small scale roasters in the Freud cafetiere. Perfect for lingering in the long light of summer with a crepe and a couple of friends.

An Evening of 17th Century Music

We are very excited to announce this intimate evening of Baroque Music with Paul Luchkow and Michael Jarvis.  Paul is a regular customer who unbeknownst to us is an accomplished early music violinist.  He approached us with this idea of playing in the café and we couldn't be more honoured.
The recital will be held in the shop so spots are limited. Wine will be available for sale before and during the intermission.  We are planning another evening in July if you can't make it to this one.

Update

Aside from the shop, I also have a studio in a back closet of the building. It may be the most unglamourous studio there ever was but it has also been my most prolific one.  Maybe because there is nothing to be distracted by, no gazing out the windows,  no re- arranging my collections or getting side tracked by visitors. I just go there to work.

Almost a year ago I received an email from a stylist in New York who wanted to buy some work for a cook book. She was unable to tell me whom it was for but did tell me that the photographer would be Ditte Isager. I had a little freak out. I know both Ditte's work and that of her frequent stylist Christine Rudolf very well. I knew it would be a good.

In early April I was informed that it was Gwyneth Paltrow's new cookbook "It's all good" It is thrilling to see my pots, that were made in a closet, on the pages of such a beautiful cookbook.
April also marked the opening of Andrea Carlson's new restaurant Burdock and Co. If you ever go for dinner there, you will likely be eating out of one of my bowls or plates.

If you find yourself in London England you can now see a small selection of my work at Mouki.  A brand new boutique on Chiltern st.

Thank you to Christine, Rebecca, Andrea and Maria for the opportunity to see my work in such beautiful places!

Olive Oil Tasting and Dinner no.3/4

There is something wonderful about spending an entire day cooking. I love the idle chatter and ease of focused company. Although I spent most of my time setting the table, I enjoyed watching the arrival of boxes filled with burrata, tomatoes, fava beans, basil, home made bread that took days to make, olive oil, mint, carpaccio and Tonio's families grain sieves and linens. The day unfolded into a painterly scene, a still life of colours and textures, followed by the robust aromas of Puglian cooking.
These kinds of days require a lot of planning, a lot of help and a lot of knowledge. Even though there is tremendous work involved, there is something very rewarding to hear the din of people enjoying themselves late into the evening. I couldn't ask for better days than this.
Thank you to everyone who came out, coats and all and special thanks to the crew,
Tonio, Jennifer, Kelly (whose outfits were incredible)Tom, Daniel, Sheila, Ehrin, Alistair, Nino, Pascal and Klee.
I wish we could do this everyday!

SHWAYSHWAY CAFE

I mentioned in a previous post that Yashar of Yummus would be hosting Lebanese inspired pop-up café @ The China Town Experiment. Well, it's this week and he will be collaborating with a couple other culinary favourites, Sunday Morning Ice Cream and Sugo Sauce. Check out the details below.

"ShwāyShwāy Café is popping-up at the Chinatown Experiment on 434 Columbia St. this week on May 3, 4, and 5. The pop-up is organized by Yash who is also behind Yummus, the new family of locally made hummus with popular flavours such as Smoked and Moroccan Spice. He has partnered with Genevieve from Sunday Morning Ice Cream who will be making a special flavour just for this pop-up and Maya from Sugo Sauce who will have her infused olive oils at the lunch and dinner tables. They will be open from 11am - 6pm for lunch, iced teas, ice cream, and pantry/freezer shopping. There will also be three long-table family style dinners each night including a Yummus & infused olive oil tastings, eastern mezze plates, Moroccan tagines, dessert, and a cocktail. Tickets are priced within reach at $30 and available here. We've heard rumours that there will be hookah too, so you are in for a true cultural experience here."

Olive Oil Tasting 2013

Some of you may remember last year when Tonio Creanza from Famiglia Creanza gave a talk and sampling of olive oil. The evening ended in the garden with a rustic menu hailing from Tonio's home region of Italy, Puglia. It was the stand out night of 2012 for me, an unseasonably warm night, followed by crusty bread, burrata, squid and fennel salad, dandelion greens with fava beans and 42 people crammed into our backyard. This year will be smaller, 24 people and if the demand is there, we'll add an extra seating on the saturday. Hopefully the weather holds out, if not,  thankfully we are resourceful!
Please email me @info@marchestgeorge.com to book you spot. Suggested donation is 40.00 cash.
Please bring your own bottle of wine, your kids, your parents and your grandparents if you'd like, this is a family style dinner!
